Role: Onsite Event Porter
Reports To: Event Manager / Operations Manager
Role Type: Part-Time
About Us
Commonspace Collective brings commonspaces to life — we produce pop-up events and workshops for luxury residential communities, corporate teams, and private clients across Chicago. Our collective is made up of creative, hardworking people who love what they do, and we take the details seriously so our clients don't have to.
The Role
This is a hands-on, physically active position — no two days look exactly the same. As an Event Porter, you're the backbone of every event we produce. You'll be loading vans, transporting gear, setting up spaces, and breaking everything back down at the end of the night. It's real work, and we want to be upfront about that. But if you like staying active, working with a tight-knit crew, and being part of events that people actually talk about, this one's worth a look.
Expect evenings and weekends. Expect lifting. Expect good people.
What You'll Be Doing
Loading and unloading equipment at our studio and event locations across the city
Transporting gear via company cargo van to and from events across the city
Setting up and tearing down event spaces — furniture, decor, bars, backdrops, and more
Assisting with light construction and prop maintenance (painting, building, assembling)
Supporting the Event Lead throughout the event as needed
Keeping equipment organized, clean, and properly stored
What We're Looking For
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted — this is a regular part of the job, not an occasional ask
Reliable, shows up on time, and communicates when something comes up
Flexible availability for evenings and weekends
Positive attitude and comfortable working as part of a team
Some background in manual labor, event production, or similar physical work is a plus
Valid driver's license required; must be comfortable driving a cargo van or similar vehicle
Must be 18+
Compensation & Perks
$17–20/hour (most events average around $100; typically 2–3 events per week)
